The final countdown to street parade

There is now just a matter of hours until Kent's largest Royal Wedding street party takes place.

Around 500 school children will parade through the streets of Gravesend before sitting down to enjoy a street party at Gravesend's new Civic Square.

Right now the finishing touches are being put to the square, with tables, flags and bunting and a concert stage is being set up.

After the children's street party, the square will be the setting for a free concert with people being invited to try out the new square for the first time.

The square has been a major building project which began last year. It was due to be ready at the beginning of April, but a delay in delivering stone from abroad meant it was only just finished in time for today's festivities.

Council officials and contractors have worked through the Easter bank holiday and until midnight throughout the week to make sure it was complete.
