Two women and man were rescued from the River Thames after they got into difficulties while rowing near each other last night.

The women were in a two-seater skiff which rescuers said was pinned against the wharf at Denton shipyard.

The man had been thrown from a sculling boat.

The cause is not known but the wash of a passing ship is thought to have been responsible.

The man managed to free himself from the mud.

All three were rescued by the Gravesend lifeboat and then checked by South East Coast paramedics.

None needed hospital treatment.
