A FATHER has described the agony after finding his teenage son dead in his bedroom.

Paul Griffiths discovered 15-year-old son Ollie’s lifeless body when he went to wake him for school. He was a Year 10 student at Gravesend Grammar School and a twin.

Ollie’s mother, Judy, 54, is returning from Spain, where she now lives, after learning of the tragedy. But the cause of Ollie’s death remains a mystery.

“Until they do the post-mortem they have not got a clue as to the cause,” said the dead boy's 53-year-old father.

A stream of well-wishers who knew Ollie as a studious and funny teenager have been calling at the family home on Whitepost Lane, Culverstone Green, near Meopham.

Mr Griffiths said: “They often just pop in, but I tell them to sit down and have a cup of tea. Talking about it helps me.”

Ollie was due to spend three weeks with his mother in Spain in August.

Gravesend Grammar school cancelled the school play, The Royal Hunt of the Sun, in which Ollie was to appear this week as a mark of respect.

Head teacher Geoff Wybar said: “The thoughts of students and staff at the school are with the family. Our hearts go out to them at this most difficult of times. Oliver was a young man with a bright future.”

Many of his distraught friends have been given permission to stay home and the school, which made the sad announcement during a special assembly, has provided trained counsellors for pupils and staff.

Mr Griffiths now worries about Ollie’s twin brother, Toby. “The two of them were like Siamese twins that have had the operation,” he said.

Ollie’s death is a devastating blow after everything appeared normal last Sunday night.

Twin Toby and older brother James, 21, told their father how Ollie had been playing computer games the previous evening. “They saw him at about 11.30pm and he was absolutely fine.”

Then Mr Griffiths went to wake Ollie at about 7am on Monday for school and made the heartbreaking discovery. Ambulance crews arrived and said Ollie had been dead for some hours.

Ollie, who was studying for GCSEs, had been diagnosed with diabetes last year but it is not thought his death was diabetes-related.

The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held.
