Reckless thugs smash 281 train windows

A TOTAL of 281 train windows were smashed when a group of youths went on the rampage. Damage from the act of reckless violence between Gravesend and Dartford is expected to run into thousands of pounds.

The gang of yobs was travelling on four trains between the two towns when they started smashing windows from inside the carriages at around 2.45pm on Saturday. Two other trains using the same line were also attacked on Sunday.

Commuters using the line on Monday morning faced chaos as trains were taken out of service for emergency repairs or running with less than normal carriages.

Anita Ballantyne from South Eastern Trains said: “For the next few days some services will have fewer carriages than normal, making travelling conditions more cramped.”

The matter is now being investigated by British Transport Police who arrested two youths after a train was stopped outside Northfleet station on Saturday night. Officers are still wish to question four other people.
