Gillingham man and woman charged over failing to pay for food and drinks at Meopham restaurant Bartella's and pub The George Inn

Two people said to have left a pub and restaurant without paying their bills have been charged.

A manhunt was launched by the businesses to identify a man and woman after visiting two venues in Meopham – Bartella's restaurant and The George Inn – on September 24.

The pair are said to have bilked off from the restaurant in Wrotham Road and police have now charged two people with multiple offences.

It is alleged they the did the same thing at The George in the same road and that a teenage girl and a woman were also assaulted.

It was also reported that a man stole food from a supermarket in the village.

Staff at the pub and restaurant previously told KentOnline how they believed the incidents were a scam and had reported them to the police.

Police made two arrests on Wednesday.

James Hutton and Prianna Cheema, both of Berengrave Lane, Rainham, were charged and are now due to appear in court next month.

They will face charges of making off without payment of £53.08 at a restaurant and making off without payment of £138 at a public house.

Hutton, 32, was also charged with theft of food from a shop valued at £80 and Cheema, 27, with two counts of assault.

They have both been bailed to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on November 4.
