The new Gurdwara and Charles Dickens' home are on the route when the Olympic flame returns to Britain for the first time since 1948.

Details of the route were released this morning. It will visit Higham and Gravesend with the sections linked by a fast-moving convoy.

The borough visit starts at 9.37am on Friday July 20 at Copperfield Crescent, Higham.

The flame will pass Gad's Hill School - Dickens' former home - and stop at the 50mph speed limit signs. It will reappear at Thong Lane at 9.50am to be run through Gravesend town centre.

It will stop for five minutes at the Gurdwara before going past the Clock Tower and along New Road, ending outside St George's school at 10.48am.

The first runners will be announced by event organisers today.

Council leader Cllr John Burden said: "This is a once in a lifetime chance to see the Olympic flame.

"The council has been working with community groups and local schools to ensure this will be a great day for everyone."

Lord Coe, chairman of the Olympics, said it was Gravesham’s moment to shine.

In a week's time Gravesham's primary children will have a dry run of the Olympic ideals. They will take their own flame around 26 schools, perform their own rap anthems, and teachers are hoping they will get a sense of the forthcoming excitement.
