Northfleet neighbours in Seymour Road spread festive cheer with musical performance from their doorsteps

A couple of musically minded neighbours have been rousing the spirits of fellow residents through socially distanced street performances.

It was a gloomy weekend for many as festive plans for family meet-ups were dashed following the government's tier 4 announcement.

But Northfleet neighbours Judith Wenban and Stuart James, who live opposite one another in Seymour Road, were determined not to let it get them down.

The pair each took to the street on Sunday with their chosen musical instrument to perform from their doorstep for residents and onlookers.

Judith plays the flute in her spare time between busy shifts working as a midwife at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford.

The 48-year-old said she and her neighbour first struck up their musical friendship during the initial lockdown in April.

Judith had overheard brass player Stuart one morning and with both unable to join their respective musical societies decided to collaborate remotely.

"He would email me parts to learn and we would learn individually and then go out and do it together," she said, adding "we did a few during Clap for Carers".

It was when the latest lockdown came into force Judith decided to knocked on her neighbour's door once again and asked if he "fancied a reprise".

Together the pair sent out messages in Christmas cards to inform neighbours of their planned performance and were delighted to see some coming out on Sunday to listen from a distance.

Following its positive reception the pair plan to perform again on Christmas Eve. "It is nice to bring that feel good factor," adds Judith.
