My best is yet to come, says Ebbsfleet United striker Stefan Payne

Stefan Payne has promised Ebbsfleet fans his best is yet to come and believes the club will win their battle to survive in Blue Square Bet Premier.

The former Gillingham striker arrived at Stonebridge Road on transfer deadline day, having spent the first part of the season with Sutton.

After making a solitary appearance for Macclesfield Town in January, the 21-year-old agreed to join Ebbsfleet until the end of the season.

Payne (pictured) was hugely impressive against Southport last weekend, showing the sort of form which persuaded former Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler to sign him in 2010. He never tied down a regular starting berth at Priestfield, so is relishing regular football for Liam Daish’s side.

Payne said: "The gaffer and Macca have put a lot of faith in me, starting me in games. Hopefully, I can fully repay that faith by setting up and scoring more goals.

"This is the first time I’ve had a decent run of games. I’m getting consistency back into my performances but still feel there’s a lot more to come from me.

"I’ve had a few knock backs, people saying I can’t do things, so it’s a good opportunity to prove people wrong."
