Meopham man charged after woman robbed of arcade winnings in Leysdown on Sheppey

A man has been charged after a woman was robbed of her arcade winnings at knifepoint.

William Smith, 27, of Beechwood Drive, Meopham, was charged with robbery and possession of a knife in a public place on Tuesday, August 3.

It follows an incident on Tuesday, June 2, when a 19-year-old woman reported being threatened by a man in Leysdown Road, Leysdown, on Sheppey, at around 3.20pm after he had seen her win a large quantity of money on an arcade machine.

The man is alleged to have threatened the victim with a knife, before they got into an altercation and she was pushed to the floor.

Her purse was then stolen by the man before he ran away.

Following a search warrant, Smith was arrested at an address in Shoreham on Monday, August 2.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 3 where he was remanded to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday, August 31.
