Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish has hailed the impact of striker Moses Ashikodi saying he was "worth the wait."

Daish swooped for the 22-year-old former Millwall and Gillingham striker on a deal until the end of the season in mid-January and the striker repaid the faith by scoring against former club Kettering the same day.

He has gone on to score six more goals in a further nine appearances – and has five in his last five games after netting the leveller at Wrexham last Saturday.

Daish said: "Moses is doing what we brought him here for. I was patient and didn’t rush to sign just anyone – I wanted the right person.

"Hopefully his form and goals continue. He has done well and settled quickly."

The point at Wrexham extended the Fleet’s unbeaten away run to six games, stretching back to December, but they were dragged back towards the relegation zone on Monday night when the league expunged Chester’s record this season.

Fleet lost the three points they gained from the 2-1 win at Chester on February 6 – which turned out to be City’s final match.

Although just three teams will now face the drop, relegation rivals Gateshead, who lost twice to Chester this season, and Barrow, who did not face City at all, did not lose any points.

Fleet actually moved up two places to 16th but third-bottom Barrow lie just four points behind them, with seven games in hand.

Daish said: "It has been dealt with in a crazy way. I just hope we are not punished because of the mis-administration or mismanagement of another club. It would really leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Hopefully it won’t come to that."

Fleet take their unbeaten away record to Crawley this Saturday.

"Every manager is fighting and scrapping," added Daish. "We are hanging in there, but Crawley will be another tough game and we have to produce the same form we have been doing."
