Incident in town centre road

EMERGENCY services were called to the town centre this morning to a crash involving a van.

The incident happened at the top of New Road next to the Wheatshead public house.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were all called to the scene.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the driver had hit a lampost, possibly after some sort of blackout, with the van then mounting the pavement outside the pub.

The van driver was taken to hospital.

No one else was injured in the incident.
