Farmland along the A227 between Istead Rise and The Tollgate in Northfleet goes on the market

A vast area of open farming land has been put up for sale with “future development potential”, leading to fears more houses could be built.

Hazells Farm, Durndale Farm, and Wingfield Park Farm in Northfleet are being sold as a whole or three separate lots, for a guide price of between £1,275,000-£1,375,000 if sold together.

The land along the A227, between Istead Rise and The Tollgate, covers more than 160 acres in total and is being advertised as being close to good transport links.

But the sale has sparked fears more housing could eventually be created.

It comes as Hobbs Parker revealed the buyer could explore the possibility of future development.

Resident Kerry Holden, from Istead Rise, said she wishes she could buy the land herself to prevent it being built on and protect the wildlife.

She said: “I'd buy up as much land as possible in the countryside to stop more new estates being built on farmland and green pastures and hope that wildlife would flourish there again.”

Caroline Halfpenny, from Meopham, added: “I don't get it.

“We have a problem with climate change and pollution, so we build on the land that sequests carbon from the atmosphere, one of the best ways of solving the problem.”

Director at Hobbs Parker Property Consultants Matthew Sawdon said: “I confirm that we are selling the property on behalf of a charitable trust.

“The land has no benefit of planning permission at present and is being sold as purely agricultural land.

“The land may have future development potential, subject to planning, and that is for any potential purchaser to explore.”

The property is advertised as benefiting from several road accesses and being within close proximity to major transport infrastructure including the A2/M2 interchange and Ebbsfleet International railway station.
