Police say the victim, in his 40s, was set upon by three men and suffered an injury "consistent with a stab wound".

It is alleged the suspects stole cash before running away towards Gravesend town centre.

The victim, who had been walking from Grange Road, made his way to Pelham Road where he was found and treated by paramedics. He was rushed to a London hospital where police say his condition remains serious.

Det Insp Danielle Driscoll said: "An investigation is underway into the circumstances of the incident. Inquiries are being completed by officers in the area."

"We are urging witnesses, or anybody with information, to call our appeal line. Motorists with dashcam and residents with private CCTV are also asked to check for footage that may assist."
