He used to attend the school in Church Walk and still keeps in touch.

Assistant head teacher James Fotheringham said: "We are really pleased for him and that he has got another chance. He is doing so well out in Italy. He is obviously doing the right things."

He said the 23-year-old still stays in contact with the school and was very responsive in replying to them.

Back in 2019 when the player was set to make his England debut, Mr Fotheringham recalled Tomori's time at the school. He said: "He was a great student. The school are following his career and wish him the best of luck going forward.

"He was a very clever young man and came out with some excellent GCSEs. He was never in trouble and worked hard. Whenever he needed time off to go and train, he would always catch up with his work."

Tomori played for the Three Lions in November 2019 against Kosovo in the Euro 2020 qualifying match.

The Canadian-born footballer and his family moved to Gravesend when he was a baby and he has made his career across UK teams including Brighton & Hove Albion, Hull City, and Derby County before signing to AC Milan.

England are set to visit Andorra this weekend, Saturday, October 9 and host Hungary three days later at Wembley.
