Shears Green pupils help friend in need by raising hundreds for Muscular Dystrophy UK

Pupils swapped their uniform for bright orange to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Shears Green Junior School in Gravesend got behind the Go Orange campaign to support, Adam Charlick, 10, who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Adam’s mum Toni said: “It’s lovely that they are so supportive of him. Lots of the children told Adam how much they were looking forward to taking part.”

Pupils gave £1 to wear orange and took part in a cake sale.

Adam was diagnosed in 2009, causing his muscles to weaken. It affects 2,400 people in the UK, with most in a wheelchair by the age of 12.

Muscular Dystrophy’s Anneke Liefting said: “We’re so grateful that Shears Green Junior School are taking part in Go Orange for a Day.

It is thanks to fundraisers like these that we are able to continue to fund pioneering research into potential treatments for muscle-wasting conditions, as well as supporting families like the Charlicks.”
