Mia Lee, of Darnley Street, Gravesend, raises money for hospice charity ellenor

A seven-year-old girl wanting to give something back to the charity that looked after her grandmother danced her way towards a £250 donation.

Mia Lee, of Darnley Street, Gravesend, held a danceathon at the Clarendon Royal Hotel in Royal Pier Road, Gravesend, where she and her friends boogied the afternoon away for hospice charity ellenor.

Her grandmother Christine Handy spent her final few days in the hospice’s care in Coldharbour Road, Northfleet, last year, and Mia wanted to raise the money to say thanks. Her mother Louisa Handy said: “It was all Mia’s idea. My mum was poorly last year and went into ellenor for a few days for palliative care and died in the hospice.

“It was the same as having her at home for the last few days. The kids were allowed to be there and she was well looked after.

“Mia wanted to do something for them. She wants to raise £250 and has already raised £120 by doing online raffles and things like that.”

The hotel provided the venue for free to maximise the fundraising effort and more activities are being planned, including a tea party in the hospice’s gardens once the weather brightens up later in the year.

Mia’s efforts for ellenor are also part of her bid to win international pageant Face of the Globe.

She finished in the top three of the national finals last summer, securing her place in the world finals at Disneyland Paris next month.

Once there she will be performing on a catwalk, giving interviews, delivering a speech and taking part in a fitness camp.
