Free swimming for the over 60s

GRAVESHAM'S leisure centres will open their doors to the over 60s for free as part of a Government initiative aimed at getting people to lead healthier lives.

Cascades and Cygnet Leisure Centres will be taking part in Swim4life, a nationwide campaign designed to get more people active in the run up to London 2012.

The campaign, which starts on April 1 is part of a £140 million programme which runs over two years.

Lead member for communities, Cllr David Turner, said: “Gravesham Borough Council is one of almost 300 local authorities across England to take part in the Government’s free swimming scheme.

“It is a wonderful initiative that will not only encourage Gravesham’s over 60s to be active, helping keep heart and lungs, joints and muscles healthy, but it will also be a great way for them to meet new people and socialise and that is important too.”

Swim4life has also received financial assistance from NHS West Kent.
