Forget the Great British Bake Off – get cracking with crabs!

The Great British Bake Off may mean most of us have cakes, pastries and biscuits on the brain, but for people in Northfleet it’s all about crab.

Budding chefs in the area have been enjoying crab cookery classes at Eastgate, held by Rosemary Williams, who wrote a book about how to best prep a crab after the technique was passed down from her grandad.

She calls it The Holbrook Way in honour of her family name and it’s out in November.

“I had all of this information, this rich family history and thought it had to get written down somewhere, especially the crab method, as I am the last one in the family line who knows it,” she said.

“I started the getting the book ready for publication and people were asking me to show them how to prep a crab, so that’s how the workshops came about.

“So far, they’ve been popular with home chefs, plus people have been bought a place as a gift by a loved one who knew they would like an extra culinary skill.”

There are two more workshops at Eastgate before the year is out — one on Monday, October 31, and one on Monday, November 21, with both running from 2pm until 5pm.

Book more than a week in advance and it will set you back £67, or £97 if booked later. Book at facebook.com/PrepThatFish.
