A fire has destroyed a storage building behind a Gravesend parade of shops.

The double garage, in Avon Close, was completely gutted by flames and collapsed on Monday.

Crews from Thames-side fire station, who were called at about 10pm, managed to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring garages and a nearby parade of shops in Valley Drive. The two garages on either side suffered only minor damage.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has described it as a disused commercial premises, which had some rubbish inside.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
