Striker Calum Willock put in a man-of-the-match performance to inspire Ebbsfleet into the FA Trophy third round on Saturday.

Ebbsfleet got the better of a lively affair at Stonebridge Road thanks to goals from Willock, Yado Mambo and Ricky Shakes. Northern Premier League leaders Chester made it tough for Liam Daish’s side as they twice pulled goals back to give themselves a sniff of a replay.

Willock (pictured) opened the scoring on 25 minutes when he headed in a Michael West corner against the run of play.

Charlton loanee Mambo then grabbed his second goal of the season after the break to double Fleet’s advantage on 53 minutes with a header from Michael West’s free kick.

Postman Matty McNeil pulled a goal back for the visitors on the hour mark, heading in from a free-kick. But the Fleet’s two-goal advantage was restored shortly after through Shakes, who finished off by tucking away the rebound from a Nathaniel Pinney shot.

Paul Lorraine diverted into his own goal past keeper Preston Edwards with 18 minutes to go to make it a nervy finish. But Ebbsfleet held on in injury time to put themselves into the last 16 and they look forward to Monday's draw.
