Gravesend drug dealer faces trial of issue ahead of sentencing for crack cocaine supply offences

A trial of issue will be held to to decide on what basis a man, who has admitted drug supply offences, should be sentenced.

The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges of being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine at Maidstone Crown Court on March 11.

However, certain facts of the case, which could impact on sentencing are disputed.

It means a Newton hearing, or trial of issue, which is a special hearing where a judge sits without a jury to determine the facts, will now take place.

This was originally intended to be held at Woolwich Crown Court on April 17.

But due to restrictions for hearings amid the Covid-19 crisis, it was adjourned.

Sesay has been remanded in custody ahead of the new hearing scheduled to take place on June 10 at the same court.
