Court appearance after town centre assault

A MAN alleged to have assaulted a 55-year-old outside a Gravesend pizza restaurant has appeared in court.

Benjamin Turner, 24, of Foxendown Lane, Meopham, spoke only to confirm his name during the brief preliminary hearing at Maidstone Crown Court.

Prosecutor Jo Cope told the court Turner is accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The incident occurred outside Pizza Go Go in New Road on May 10.

The victim was taken to Darent Valley Hospital but transferred to King’s College in London. His condition was said to be critical but stable.
