A woman was rescued from this car after it flipped onto its roof in a town centre.

Traffic was brought to a standstill after the Citroen Xsara is thought to have spun out of control in The Terrace, Gravesend at around 2.15pm Friday.

Drivers rushed to the aid of the injured woman, believed to be the driver, before ambulance crews could reach the scene.

Pat Herbert, 48, of Gore Road, Dartford was one of the first on the scene.

She said: "I just saw the car turning and I heard a bump. I saw it flip I thought to myself 'is that happening?' There was smoke just bellowing out of it."

Police directed cars the wrong way down the one way system to free the backlog of traffic.

The woman was taken to Darent Valley Hospital. Her condition is unknown.
