Boy held after alleged hammer attack at school

A 15-year-old boy was arrested after an alleged school time hammer attack on a fellow pupil.

The teenager and victim are both students at St George’s Church of England School in Gravesend.

Police officers attended the school grounds to arrest the boy while his mother was present.

The victim was taken by his father to a minor injuries unit in Gravesend where it is thought he was treated for cuts and bruises. The school has confirmed his injuries were not serious.

Deputy head Carolyn Edwins said: “I can confirm a single, very serious incident last Friday. Such violence is an extremely rare occurrence at Saint George’s.

"The boy is currently excluded from school pending our own investigations.”

No charges have yet been brought by police.
