ASDA stores in Gravesend and Greenhithe have been doing their bit to rid the stigma attached to disabilities and invisible illnesses.

The branches are two of 421 to introduce accessible toilets with clear signs to show they are available for people with all disabilities, not just visible ones.

This follows on from Silent Hour which was introduced earlier this year to support autistic customers with their shopping experience.

The idea of more accessible toilets came after Evalynn Glennester, five, visited an ASDA branch with her mum Tonya, and was questioned about using the disabled toilet.

Evalynn has ADHD and Autism meaning even the noise of a hand dryer can affect her.

As the toilets had previously been considered only for customers with visible disabilities the mother and daughter were criticised for not using the ladies toilets instead.

The introduction of these new accessible toilets has received recognition from Crohn’s and Colitis UK which provides support for people with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Chrohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
