A stretch of the A2 has been closed in north Kent after a car and a van collided.

It happened just before midday on the London bound carriageway, near the slip road for Greenhithe and Bluewater. One person has been taken to hospital.

The road was closed while one of the drivers was cut free from the car by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The ambulance service is also at the scene.

The accident has caused heavy tailbacks which are stretching back to the Ebbsfleet and Northfleet sections of the A2.

Police said there is still debris in the road from the smash and recovery of both vehicles still needs to take place. They expect the road to re-open around 2pm.
