Traffic held on A2 near Gravesend as police called to woman in distress

The A2 was closed near Gravesend while police helped a woman in distress.

Traffic was temporarily held in both directions near the Cobham services at around 9am this morning.

Officers attended along with paramedics and the woman was safely found.

Traffic on all lanes was stopped at the junction with the A227 Wrotham Road shortly, but the road reopened at around 9.45am.

Highways England says there were delays in the aftermath, but traffic had returned to normal by 10.30am.

A police spokesman said: "We was called to Hever Court Road in Gravesend at 9am due to concerns for a woman who appeared distressed.

"The woman was safely located and the road was reopened at around 9.45am."
