Firefighters have spent the night keeping watch over a massive hay fire at Istead Rise.

An estimated 100 tons of baled hay was well alight when the Thames-side fire crews arrived at the blaze in Park Hill at 1.30am.

They were still there at 8.30am, ensuring the fire did not spread to any adjacent areas.

Dave Spittle, managing the fire crew during the night, said: "It was huge.

"The blaze was quite visible from Wrotham Road, and we got a number of calls about it."

The cause is not known, but is one of a series of farm fires in the area this summer.
