Folkestone Invicta manager Neil Cugley says his players let him down during the home Ryman League Division 1 South defeat to Faversham Town

Neil Cugley says his players let both him and the club down with their performance during Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Faversham in Ryman League Division 1 South.

The defeat was Invicta's first in seven league matches at the Fullicks Stadium this season, and to make matters worse they played the final 32 minutes with 10 men after skipper Liam Friend was sent off for a challenge on Town striker Liam King.

Faversham skipper Wayne Wilson converted the penalty, awarded for Friend's foul, to add to the 40th minute opener from Invicta old boy Stuart King.

Invicta boss Cugley said his squad will have much to prove to him and the supporters when they return to the Fullicks to face Ramsgate on Tuesday.

He said: "I just felt they (the players) let me and the club down. They weren't anywhere near to where we should be. I have never seen so many individuals play so poorly. I told them (afterwards) that I felt really let down and disappointed.

"I think they know they let themselves and the club down today and it's not often I've had to say that about any of my teams.

"We played really, really well last Saturday (when Invicta won 3-1 at Whyteleafe). I was really pleased.

"Everything I wanted from them I got and then, a week later we play like that. Why I've no idea. Maybe we haven't got enough natural leaders in the club - I think that showed up a bit today."

Invicta remain top of the table, two points clear of Molesey, but Cugley warned that they won't stay there if they produce many more displays like the one against Faversham, who he admitted, were worthy winners.

He added: "I'm moaning about a team that is top of the league but we know that if we play like that we won't finish at the top. Our standards dropped dramatically today."

Ronnie Dolan came off at half-time with an ankle injury which makes him a doubt for the Ramsgate game and Cugley is not ruling out adding a new face to his squad by then.

He explained: "We've made an inquiry and we'll see how that goes. Hopefully if we can bring someone in it will give us a lift. I've had my say (about Saturday's game) - it's now down to the players.

"They've got to come back on Tuesday and show me and people that they want to be at Folkestone."
