Woman trapped in Sainsbury's lift

An emergency rescue operation was launched after a woman in her 60s became trapped in a supermarket lift.

Firefighters were called by staff at Sainsbury's in Bouverie Road West, Folkestone, at about 1pm yesterday.

The lift, which takes customers up and down from the multi-storey car park had broken when the woman got inside it.

Firefighter Richard Gatehouse said: "We wound the lift to the nearest floor and freed the person.

"It wasn't working properly, that's why it stopped between floors."

The lift was sealed off after the incident while an engineer was called to fix it.

Firefighters spent 45 minutes at the scene.
