Kent GCSE results: students in Folkestone and Hythe receive their results today

For a second successive year, pupils across the country are receiving their results after exams were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Students at schools in Folkestone and Hythe will today discover their GCSE grades determined by their teachers, rather than exams, assessed on what they have been taught during the year.

Ofqual interim chief regulator Simon Lebus told the BBC that the watchdog wanted to create a system where every student was given a fair chance to show what they can do.

“I’m very confident that, when they get their grades on Tuesday and Thursday this week, they’ll be able to feel satisfied that that’s happened,” he told the broadcaster.

We will be updated you with all the results from schools across Folkestone and Hythe as we get them today.

Folkestone School for Girls

A spokeswoman for the school said: "Once again we celebrate an outstanding set of results at GCSE some 57% of grades Grade 7+ with over one in 10 grades reaching the highest grade 9 standard.

"Results days are a reflection not just of the girls but of our staff and of our school"

"Within these headline figures of course are hundreds of individual triumphs and successes; and that’s not necessarily all about grades 7, 8 or 9.

"For some of our girls that grade 4 or 5 may have been equally hard fought and hard won and we recognise, value and celebrate those achievements, that progress made, just as much.

"Results days are a reflection not just of the girls but of staff and of our school and the dedication of teachers and all staff throughout. This year, perhaps more than ever, we should also recognise the invaluable support of parents and siblings at home.

Standout performers include Neha Rajesh, who achieved a grade 9 in all ten of her subjects, Klara Hansen with nine grade 9s, and Millie Miles with eight.

Steve Shaw, Head of School said: “We are all immensely proud of all the work and achievements of our pupils, especially after such a difficult and disrupted year where they have demonstrated resilience and perseverance.

"Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure students are all able to progress onto further education and study, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.”
