In a post on social media, the team said: “We are very sad to announce that the restaurant is now permanently closed.

“We had to make this really difficult decision for a number of reasons, including family bereavement and rising costs across the board affecting the whole hospitality industry.

“We want to say a big thank you to all our wonderful customers and supporters down the years.

“Despite this sad ending, we have so many fantastic memories to treasure and feel so honoured to have been part of this amazing community.

“Big love to you all.”

Customers have shared their sadness following the news that the South Street restaurant, which specialises in small plates, will be no more.

“So sorry to see you go. We loved Pinxtos, especially your delicious jamon croquetas. All the best for the future,” one person commented on Facebook.

“So sorry to read this Gianni and sorry for your loss. We have loved eating your food over the years and wish you every success in the future - hope you pop up somewhere when you are ready,” another wrote.

Serving up Basque inspired food and small plates, the restaurant opened its doors in 2021.

Before that, it had a pop-up on the popular Folkestone Harbour Arm from 2018.

Pick Up Pintxos was also featured in the Good Food Guide in 2022 where it was given an overall rating of good.

Food critic Grace Dent reviewed the spot in 2021 and said Chef Gianni Modena had a strong grasp of seasoning, textures and presentation.

“I doubt you’ll find a better piece of txuleton in the UK today,” she wrote.

“After an hour or so in this rather soulless and quite dark restaurant, I was rather keen to go.

“The place means well and is full of good ideas, but it needs some sort of a reboot. And I empathise because, at some level, don’t we all?”
