A doctor and paramedic battled in vain to save a man who collapsed at Folkestone Racecourse.

Kent Air Ambulance has explained how its crew struggled to revive the victim yesterday but he died at the scene on Saturday.

Jill Playle, director of communications, said: "Our doctor and paramedic gave him advanced life support treatment but unfortunately, despite our intervention, he did not respond."

"We made a prolonged attempt to resuscitate him."

The helicopter ambulance service had been called out at 2.23pm by St John Ambulance members after the victim in a crowd collapsed from a cardiac arrest.

The air ambulance arrived 11 minutes later from its Marden base.

Racing was promptly stopped as staff at the grounds prepared for the the helicopter's landing directly on-site.
