Pair prepare for Mother's Day challenge

Two mums will have a Mother’s Day adventure by taking on the Kentish Express and kmfm charity zip wire challenge.

Debbie Bentley and Janet Howell will slide down a 150m cable from 100ft at Folkestone Racecourse on March 22.

Mrs Howell, 64, of Crete Road West, Folkestone, is the mother of Ms Bentley, 39, of the town’s Warren Way and Ms Bentley has two teenage sons.

Ms Bentley said: “The fact that it is on Mother’s Day is a coincidence but we took the challenge last year and loved it.”

A total 70 per cent of the funds raised will go to the Pilgrims Hospices and the pair are also taking the challenge in memory of Thomas Howell, Mrs Howell’s husband and Ms Bentley’s father, who died of cancer in 2006 aged 71.

Ms Bentley said: “The Canterbury and Ashford hospices had cared for him so it is nice to be able to give something back.”

The remaining 30 per cent of the event’s money goes to the Kent and Medway Walking Bus.

Folkestone Racecourse is providing its grounds for free and the event is being sponsored by the town’s Bouverie Place Shopping Centre and Wilmoths Citroen.

Other potential sponsors should contact Mr Dolby on 07989 164752.
