Pictures from the scene show two police cars near the store, and the black ram being held by the officer.

The incident blocked the road, but it has now reopened.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said the force “was called at around 2.10pm to a report of a loose ram in Harvey Street, Folkestone.

“Officers attended and located the animal in nearby Foord Road, where it was brought to safety and returned to its owner.”
