The five main parties are standing candidates in Folkestone and Hythe at next month’s general election, it has been confirmed.

Damian Collins, the Conservative candidate, will be bidding to retain the seat he has held since 2010 on Thursday, June 8.

Familiar faces will also be representing the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party.

Former Lib Dem Shepway councillor, Lynne Beaumont, is standing again, while Green candidate Martin Whybrow is hoping to follow up on his re-election to Kent County Council last week.

Labour has selected Laura Davison, after their previous candidate, Claire Jeffrey, defected to the Tories last September.

Ukip, which came second at the 2015 election, has selected Stephen Priestley.

Mr Collins heads into the vote on June 8 after extending his majority in 2015 by 6% to 13,797 votes.

Voters must be registered by midnight on Monday, May 22 to be eligible to vote.

Applications to register must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 2QY by midnight on Monday, May 22.
