Drug dealer Jaydee Ashton jailed after failing to stick to terms of suspended sentence despite job in ice cream parlour

A Folkestone drug dealer – who avoided a jail sentence to sell ice cream – has failed to melt the heart of a judge.

Jaydee Ashton, 29, was convicted of possessing cocaine and heroin intending to sell them.

In June the judge suspended a two-year sentence after hearing she had landed a job selling ice cream.

Ashton, of Marshall Street, Folkestone was told she could stay out of prison as long as she co-operated with the Probation Service.

“Not only did you not turn up when and where you were required but you also showed poor judgement in response to the order by continuing to use cannabis and ecstasy"

But senior official Linda Jeacock told Canterbury Crown Court that the mum-of two failed to show up for meetings in July and avoided taking drugs tests.

“She refused on two occasions and then admitted she had been using cannabis and ecstasy," she added.

Her lawyer Phil Rowley said that after spending a week in custody awaiting the new sentence, Ashton had found the commitment to obey the order.

“She refused to take the drugs test because she thought it would prove positive for cannabis.

She also candidly told probation staff that recreationally while at a festival had taken ecstasy.”

He asked Judge Adele Williams for the defendant to have one last chance to tackle her drugs problem and continue working at the family run ice cream parlour.

Ashton put her right hand on her heart after admitting breaching the court order.

But the judge said: “I would have made it absolutely plain to you that this was a real chance I was giving you.

“Not only did you not turn up when and where you were required but you also showed poor judgement in response to the order by continuing to use cannabis and ecstasy.

“I see no alternative other then implementing the full two years."
