Catherine Newcombe, of St Nicholas Primary School, New Romney, named as Kent's top primary school teacher

Music and language specialist Catherine Newcombe has been named as Kent’s top primary school teacher.

Catherine, from St Nicholas School in New Romney, received the accolade at the annual Kent Teacher of the Year Awards at Priestfield Stadium, Gillingham, on Wednesday night.

She was also named as the Folkestone area primary school teacher of the year.

Daphne Claughton, from Godington school, was the Ashford area primary school teacher of the year, while the area secondary school award went to Mel Gorman, from The Towers School, Ashford.

The Folkestone area secondary school teacher of the year was Jackie Mortimer, of Brockhill Park Performing Arts College.
