Man asking for directions in Sandgate, Folkestone, 'tries to lead boy away'

A bandana-wearing man tried to lead a boy away by the arm.

The 12-year-old was approached by the stranger between 1.45pm and 2pm on Saturday in The Esplanade in Sandgate, Folkestone.

The suspect asked him for directions before attempting to lead the youngster away.

The boy managed to run away after the adult let go of his arm.

DC Maria Cutter said: "Although the boy got home safely, he was understandably distressed.

"We are treating this as an isolated incident and would urge anyone who may have seen anything or who may have information to come forward."

The man is said to have brown eyes and is described as Eastern European and about 5ft 10ins tall.

He was wearing a black hooded top, dark grey tracksuit bottoms and black leather gloves. The bandana was covering his nose and mouth,

He is believed to have left the scene in a silver Volkswagen SUV.
