Appeal to find car which nearly struck robber

Did you nearly run over an armed robber?

Police are appealing for the driver of a small blue coloured car to come forward following the armed robbery at Park Farm Sainsbury’s, Folkestone, last Thursday at about 4.20pm.

Police say the man involved in the robbery was nearly struck by the car, possibly a Fiesta or similar, when he ran across Sainsburys’ car park across Linksway, before getting into a waiting silver Audi A4 saloon car.

The driver of the Fiesta, who is not involved in the robbery but could be a witness, is described as a white woman aged in her mid 30s. A girl of about eight or nine years old was travelling in the front passenger seat.

The armed robbery happened when a security guard was approached by a man as he entered the store’s main entrance. The man is described as white, of medium build and height, believed to be in his 20s and wearing a grey hooded top and dark glasses. The man is alleged to have had a dark coloured handgun and made threats to the guard before stealing a cash box.

Members of the public chased the man through the car park and out into Broadmead Village, where he got into the waiting Audi.

It drove off at speed before being abandoned in Belinda Court, Folkestone.

The cash box was discarded in the car after the security dye pack was activated.

Some of the cash was abandoned when the dye pack exploded, but an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen which is likely to be stained along the edges with red dye.

No one suffered physical injuries during the robbery and the abandoned vehicle has been recovered for forensic examination.
