Faversham Town boss Ray Turner says game at Whyteleafe could be pivotal to the rest of their season

Ray Turner says Saturday’s trip to Whyteleafe is potentially the key fixture to determining the direction of Faversham’s season.

After Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 win over basement-boys Godalming, Town remain 15th but are four unbeaten in Ryman League Division 1 South, have games in hand and face a trip to lowly Chatham on Monday (7.45pm) after the trip to Leafe.

Boss Turner said: “If we can get a win at Whyteleafe we go above them. They are one of our first targets. This will be a key result for us in terms of the season.

“If we were able to go to Chatham on Monday on the back of three wins and with confidence flowing, then you’re looking at a win to get back in touch with that top-10.

“If we could take six points before the other teams play on Tuesday, it would be a big statement that this season is not over by any means.”

Bola Dawodu came off the bench to be the hero with two goals on Saturday as Town left it until the dying minutes to overturn a 2-1 deficit and snatch the points.

Turner said: “Faversham sides have never made things easy but this season is something else. It was an unbelievable game in many aspects.

“We should have been minimum three-up in the first 25 minutes but they attacked twice before half-time and scored twice.

"We struggled in the second half and it was tough to see where a goal was coming from but we threw Bola up front and in the 10 minutes he was on the pitch, he got a rebound and then a great header across goal.”

Turner is hoping to resist an approach from Whitstable to take Dawodu on
dual-registration this week, saying: “It’s not something I want to happen.

“Discussions are ongoing but it is not great timing. He played 90 minutes on Tuesday and I hope he will decide to stay.”
