He said: “As an ex-soldier, I have a strong interest in the defence sector. When I left the Army I thought I’d go for an apprenticeship at BAE Systems. I’m finding the apprenticeship to be a nice ‘middle ground’ between the forces and a regular civilian job. Crucially, I’ve been given the opportunity to learn from the ground up.”

“It’s been easy to integrate into the business, as many of my colleagues started out as apprentices.”

Jason added: “A BAE Systems apprenticeship is intensive, but manageable, as you get a balance of work and spare time. I feel really lucky to be working here and I’m excited for the future.”

“If you or a family member are looking at your next step, definitely look at an apprenticeship – you gain valuable skills and experience in the real world, with a qualification and doors opening for you at the end of it.”

Bayley is also a second-year apprentice.

He said: “This isn’t my first apprenticeship – I actually began basic training with the Royal Navy at sixteen. However, after several weeks I realised it wasn’t for me, but I still had a desire to work in the aerospace and defence industry.”

“Coming into work every day and knowing that I’m helping to protect people across the globe is really motivating, as well as seeing how the technology that we develop benefits people in the real world. I’m proud to follow in the footsteps of my dad and grandad, who also started out as apprentices.”

“Everyone is friendly, my college tutors are great, and so are the BAE Systems team who manage and safeguard us.”

“I’m looking forward to achieving as many qualifications as I can, growing my career, and seeing where my journey will lead with BAE Systems.”
