Whites make Gate fight all the way

LEE SPILLER: wasted golden chance early on
LEE SPILLER: wasted golden chance early on

Dover 1 Margate 3

SUPERIOR finishing by Margate proved the difference as a below-strength Dover side matched their Conference opponents almost blow for blow in this Kent Senior Cup semi-final.

The result was in doubt until the 88th minute when Margate grabbed a killer third goal.

Fielding five players who began the season in the reserves, Whites took the game to Gate early on and if Lee Spiller had converted a great ninth minute opportunity the result could have been very different.

Margate took the lead on 24 minutes through former Dover player Jake Leberl. Margate substitute Che Stadhart hit the post early in the second half before making it 2-0 with a low drive.

Whites hit back straight away to give their supporters in the 663 crowd something to cheer, when Jamie Day nodded home but Margate sealed their place in the final with a Greg Oates goal two minutes from time.
