Dover Sharks progressed to the quarter-finals of the Shepherd Neame Kent Cup with a 41-0 win at Beccehamians on Saturday.

The scoreline does not tell the whole story, because for the first 60 minutes the London 4 South side – two divisions below Dover – made life difficult for the visitors.

Dover made a confident start when Jack Tomlinson scored the opening try within the first minutes and Martyn Beaumont slotted the conversion.

Beccs came back defiantly and for the remainder of the half Dover struggled to sustain any momentum.

They did manage a penalty and Beaumont added to his tally with a breakaway try as Dover reached half-time 15-0 ahead.

At the interval a few harsh words were exchanged and a number of changes made to the Dover line-up.

Once again Beccs battled bravely and their young left winger made a number of dangerous runs.

Dover eventually got to grips with the game and in the last quarter scored four excellent tries with some scintillating rugby, courtesy of Rocky Murray, Ben Sedgwick, Ricky Stanley and Mick O’Donnell, with three conversions added.

Dover have been drawn away to Blackheath in the quarter-finals, with the tie to be played on Sunday, Match 22.

The side return to London 2 South action on Saturday with a home game against Sidcup.
