'Sad' keeper Hyde leaves Whites

HYDE: long-term servant of the club

THE career of veteran goalkeeper Paul Hyde at Dover Atheltic has come to an end.

Hyde, known to be disappointed at not getting the manager’s job, said: “I was a Dover supporter as well as a Dover player. I am very sad to be leaving the club on this note.

"I’m disappointed with Dover. I went from assistant manager to player, to now being forgotten about. For the immediate future, I will be taking some time out and reflecting on what has been a bad season for me.

"I haven’t made my mind up. I’m disappointed with football at the moment and it wouldn’t be wise for me to jump straight back into something else straight away.”

Hyde’s Dover contract has yet to be cancelled and he is hoping to arrange a testimonial for later in the season after spending six years at Crabble.

Manager Browne meanwhile said: “I had a long chat with Paul and we decided it was best for him to move on. We’ll try and sort something out with him.”

The former Wycombe player has been out of the side in recent weeks with a hand injury and his last appearance for Whites was in the FA Cup tie with AFC Wimbledon last month, when he departed the action with injury.

"It’s a shame, but I’ve said I will still go down to Dover,” said Hyde. “I have enjoyed being there. It is a great club and my family have always thoroughly enjoyed it.”
