FORMER England and Middlesex spinner Phil Tufnell will be the star guest at Dover Athletic FC's Sportsmans' Evening on Friday, February 27.

Tufnell has recently found further fame from his appearance on ITV's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!

The soccer club has changed its format slightly for this event and thrown it open to ladies as well as gentlemen.

Dover chairman Mick Kemp said: "We are hoping for a good turnout for Phil Tufnell because he is a genuine celebrity. After a top-class cricket career he has managed to stay in the limelight through his various TV appearances and it should be a fun evening.

"We wanted it take it away from being a night aimed purely at football-lovers, and so we went purposely went for a cricketer in Phil Tufnell.

"But it was hard work pinning him down because he is getting so many offers at the moment, and a week after he is in Dover he will be off to the West Indies to commentate on the England tour, so the timing couldn't be better from our point of view."

Other entertainment includes a comedian, an auction and a raffle. The event will be held in a large fully-heated marquee on the lower sports ground at Crabble.

Tickets for the event, which includes a three-course meal, cost £30 and are available form MHK Bathrooms in London Road, or from the club offices, telephone 01304 822373.
