Dover boss Chris Kinnear says it's all about winning after his side survive tough afternoon at Whitehawk

Chris Kinnear was pleased to see Dover avoid having their FA Trophy hopes blown away after Stefan Payne's late double clinched a 3-1 win at Whitehawk, and a place in Monday's second round draw.

Dover survived a tough first half examination from Sussex's non-league team of the moment to emerge victorious.

Nicky Deverdics' spectacular free-kick put them in front 10 minutes after half-time.

Jake Robinson then volleyed against Andy Rafferty's crossbar, before Scott Neilsen's free-kick put Hawk level, only for Payne to make it 2-1 a minute later, and then settle the tie in stoppage-time.

Kinnear said: "It was very windy and the pitch was very heavy and who knows, if we have another very good run in the competition, we will look back on this and say we started out with this hard won victory.

"You just have to get through games like this somehow, it doesn't have to be great, we have just got to try and win, because there have been times this season when we have played well and not won.

"It wasn't a game for forwards, but Stef knows where the goal is - and we were just pleased to win the game and get through.

Deverdics said' "We were playing with the wind in the second half, and I was looking to hit it with a bit of pace towards the back post and it went in.

Payne added: "Toby Ajala made the first for me and then Ricky Modeste has robbed a defender to set-up my second.

"We have got unfinished business in the Trophy this season (after going out in the quarter-finals last season), and getting to play-off final gives us two chances to get to Wembley."
