Injury woes facing Walker

DOUBTFUL: Victor Renner has a hamstring injury
DOUBTFUL: Victor Renner has a hamstring injury

Heybridge Swifts v Dover

DOVER Athletic boss Clive Walker has three injury doubts ahead of Saturday's game away to Heybridge Swifts.

Victor Renner (hamstring) and Dean Readings (knee) both had to be substituted during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Windsor & Eton while Daniel Braithwaite picked up a knock on the ankle.

With three wins from his first three matches, manager Walker could hardly have asked for a better start to his second spell in charge.

But the satisfaction that Walker and his players can draw from their league wins over Staines and Windsor & Eton, plus the Kent Senior Cup success over Ashford, has to considerably tempered by the grim reality of the club’s Ryman League position.

Second from bottom of the Premier Division table, and still 11 points adrift of fifth-from bottom Salisbury with only 13 matches left, the odds are still very much on Whites suffering their third relegation in four seasons.

Walker admitted: "I can’t look at the table at the moment because it makes depressing reading, but if we could string five or six wins together then suddenly we would have a chance.

"Getting a winning mentality back at this club is my task, but we have to win a lot of games before we start thinking of actually staying up."

Clive Walker spoke to KM-fm sports editor Simon Watts ahead of the match...
