Dover manager Andy Hessenthaler has spoken of his delight at signing Gillingham midfielder Nicky Southall on loan.

Southall joined Dover yesterday for a month and played in last night's 2-0 win at Hendon in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Hessenthaler said: “We were lucky to get Nicky. Mark Stimson had said he could get out on loan, and he just felt he needed to get out and get his fitness levels up.

“Fortunately he decided he wanted to come and play a few games for us. He has played at Premier League level and has got bags of experience.

“We have got a young team and we can only benefit from him being on the pitch and off the pitch.

“We have got him for a month and he has got five games in the month - we will take it from there."

He added: "Someone with Nicky’s quality we would love to be able to keep here longer but we will just have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks."
