THE proposed takeover of Dover Athletic is not a done deal yet according to Jim Parmenter, the man leading the consortium of local businessmen who want to take over the troubled Ryman League Premier Division club.

Mr Parmenter announced on Wednesday that he had reached "verbal agreement" with the club's major shareholders, John and Alan Husk, but in a fresh statement he made clear that some obstacles still remain.

He said: "Following the verbal compromise agreement made with John and Alan Husk, some complicated legal issues remain.

"These are relevant to conditions laid down by John and Alan which need to be met before they will agree to release their shares.

"I'm doing everything I can to facilitate these requirements, but it will be a requirement for lawyers to scrutinise the detail. Unfortunately most of the legal profession are on holiday this week so matters cannot be fully resolved until after the weekend.

"We are proceeding on the basis that these issues can be resolved and will have everything in place to mobilise once the shareholders have signed the agreements. In the meantime, I urge all supporters to come to the two games over the weekend and get behind the team."

Dover are at home to Hendon in the league on Saturday, and then on Monday they are at home again against AFC Wimbledon in a Bryco Cup third round tie. Both games kick off at 3pm.
